Two concepts--miniature job learning and evaluation and assessment center methodology--were woven into a technique for evaluating and classifying personnel for technically oriented jobs. The concepts are presented and the resultant evaluative methodology described. Trial work indicated acceptable internal psychometric characteristics and considerable acceptability for the methods and approach.

Document number CIA-RDP66B00728R000300050047-1 declassified and released through the CIA's CREST database. Previously available only on four computers located outside of Washington D.C., the Agency was successfully pressured into putting the files online as a result of a MuckRock lawsuit and the efforts of Emma Best. The metadata was collected by Data.World, and the files are now being archived and made text searchable by the Internet Archive.

Individuals varying in conceptual makeup were subjected to a series of experimental manipulations calculated to elicit different responses from the varyingly constituted participants. More specifically, representatives of the four nodal conceptual systems posited by Harvey, Hunt and Schroder (1961) were exposed to experimental variations that were expected to pull differential yielding to or reliance upon external cues and social influence. This report describes research that was conducted for the purpose of advancing cyber incident response capability at the U.S. DoD-defined Tier 3 level. As both authors (at time of writing) serve in cyber support roles within the U.S. Navy, the report is written with some specificity to Navy shipboard and facility environments. Given the complexity of modern cyber systems, analysis is generally considered to be the most technically difficult task involved in the incident handling life-cycle....

The domestic terrorist threat in the United States is active and complex, with ongoing threats from violent left- and right-wing extremist groups, and radicalization and recruitment efforts by international terrorist groups. In response, domestic intelligence agencies, at all levels of government, have instituted reforms and improvements since 9/11, but there are still gaps in information-sharing and community engagement. For example, a review of the Boston Marathon bombings uncovered that...

This thesis examines possible reasons why some organizations overuse the term sovereign citizen. To do so, the thesis discusses various behaviors that sovereign citizens typically undertake, describes activities that the law enforcement community and researchers classify as sovereign citizen-related, and demonstrates the incongruity in some of those attributions. This thesis also explores how various organizations at times incorrectly apply the domestic terrorist label to sovereign citizens, at...

This article introduces the {\Omega} counter, a frequency counter -- or a frequency-to-digital converter, in a different jargon -- based on the Linear Regression (LR) algorithm on time stamps. We discuss the noise of the electronics. We derive the statistical properties of the {\Omega} counter on rigorous mathematical basis, including the weighted measure and the frequency response. We describe an implementation based on a SoC, under test in our laboratory, and we compare the {\Omega} counter...

Travel times of PcP and P phases from nuclear and high explosive sources are interpreted in terms of variations in the radius of the earth's outer core. This interpretation favors a core which is slightly larger and has less ellipticity than the Taggart-Engdahl reference model. Other interpretations in terms of lateral variation in mantle velocity are possible. Because of the geographic distribution of events and stations, only the northern hemisphere of the core is represented. A modified...

There is a deep structural link between acausal spacetimes and quantum theory. As a consequence quantum theory may resolve some "paradoxes" of time travel. Conversely, non-time-orientable spacetimes naturally give rise to electric charges and spin half. If an explanation of quantum theory is possible, then general relativity with time travel could be it.

We introduce a quantum mechanical model of time travel which includes two figurative beam splitters in order to induce feedback to earlier times. This leads to a unique solution to the paradox where one could kill one's grandfather in that once the future has unfolded, it cannot change the past, and so the past becomes deterministic. On the other hand, looking forwards towards the future is completely probabilistic. This resolves the classical paradox in a philosophically satisfying manner.

An inverse analysis is presented as one method of assessing ballistic control exhibited in electrothermal-chemical (ETC) experimental gun firings. The analysis attempts to determine the decomposition or gas generation rate necessary to satisfy an energy balance equation as gleaned from available experimental data. The apparent functional relationship between the electrical energy input and working fluid mass consumed is examined. As applied in this report, the inverse analysis of ETC gun firing...

The problem of deducing the values of the ex change integrals in yttrium- and gadolinium iron garnet from measurements of the magnetization and the magnetic contribution to the specific heat at low temperatures is considered. For these garnets the spin wave normal modes can be found by solving the semi-classical equations of motion which give rise to a set of n simultaneous linear equations, where n is the number of magnetically inequivalentions in the unit cell. Ab initio calculations using extended basis sets are presented for the potential energy surface (PES) of H + OCS. There are two major reaction channels on the PES; Reaction (I) is H(2S) + OCS(1(Sigma)) yields OH(2(Pi)) + CS(1(Sigma)), and Reaction (II) is H(2S) + OCS(1(Sigma)) yields SH(2(Pi)) + CO(1(Sigma)). Results of this study substantiate findings from an earlier quantum chemical study using a lower level of theory, including (1) the existence of 12 transition states and 6 stable 4-body...

Classical dynamics calculations are performed for O(3P) + H2O(1A1) collisions from 2 to 10 km s-1 (4.1 to 101.3 kcal mol-1), focusing on product internal energies. Several methods are used to produce ro-vibrationally state-resolved product cross sections and to enforce zero-point maintenance from analysis of the classical trajectories. Two potential energy surfaces are used: 1) a recently developed set of global reactive surfaces for the three lowest triplet states which model OH formation, H...

Closed timelike curves (CTCs) are trajectories in spacetime that effectively travel backwards in time: a test particle following a CTC can in principle interact with its former self in the past. CTCs appear in many solutions of Einstein's field equations and any future quantum version of general relativity will have to reconcile them with the requirements of quantum mechanics and of quantum field theory. A widely accepted quantum theory of CTCs was proposed by Deutsch. Here we explore an...

Debuggers for logic programming languages have traditionally had a capability most other debuggers did not: the ability to jump back to a previous state of the program, effectively travelling back in time in the history of the computation. This ``retry'' capability is very useful, allowing programmers to examine in detail a part of the computation that they previously stepped over. Unfortunately, it also creates a problem: while the debugger may be able to restore the previous values of...

General relativity allows solutions exhibiting closed timelike curves. Time travel generates paradoxes and quantum mechanics generalizations were proposed to solve those paradoxes. The implications of self-consistent interactions on acausal region of space-time are investigated. If the correspondence principle is true, then all generalizations of quantum mechanics on acausal manifolds are not renormalizable. Therefore quantum mechanics can only be defined on global hyperbolic manifolds and all...

This article is from Frontiers in Psychology , volume 5 . Abstract We introduce a new method, based on immersive virtual reality (IVR), to give people the illusion of having traveled backwards through time to relive a sequence of events in which they can intervene and change history. The participant had played an important part in events with a tragic outcome—deaths of strangers—by having to choose between saving 5 people or 1. We consider whether the ability to go back through time, and...

Large (greater than 300 m diameter) lava tube caverns appear to exist on the Moon and could provide substantial safety and cost benefits for lunar bases. Over 40 m of basalt and regolith constitute the lava tube roof and would protect both construction and operations. Constant temperatures of -20 C reduce thermal stress on structures and machines. Base designs need not incorporate heavy shielding, so lightweight materials can be used and construction can be expedited. Identification and...
